Through their generous support, UWNCM donors help fight the region’s most pressing challenges, providing resources to create lasting changes.

Along the way, countless individuals benefit from this generosity. We are proud to share some recent stories from our agency partners showing the impact our donors have on individuals in the region:

A New Home—and Newfound Independence

Joshua was a long-term resident at the Athol Area YMCA who is disabled and in need of financial guidance. At the YMCA, he met regularly with staff to review his budget and financial planning.

In August 2021, Joshua found an affordable apartment near the YMCA. Staff helped him begin the process of transitioning to his own place and being responsible for his rent and utilities. Joshua has since moved to the apartment—his first ever—and he frequently checks back with the YMCA for guidance. Although it was a scary step, Joshua is happy and pleased with his decision.

A Helping Hand

Lily, a longtime resident of Gardner, struggled to afford living expenses after she and her husband divorced. While she was able to get a subsidized apartment in local senior housing, when costs for food, fuel and other items rose during the pandemic, she could not meet her monthly budget.

Starting last spring, Lily began visiting the Gardner CAC food pantry and Fellowship Table. The food pantry’s weekly allotment provides her with 5 days’ worth of nutritious food, and the Fellowship Table provides a weekly hot meal, enabling her to cover her other expenses on her fixed income.

A Stunning Transformation

When 14-year-old Blake joined the Junior Clubhouse program at the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster, he was failing school and felt isolated and lonely.

Blake’s future got brighter after he attended the program’s homework room, where staff encouraged him to try robotics. Blake demonstrated an interest and aptitude for mechanics, including the business side of engineering. He joined the robotics team, has made new friends, and now mentors others. Blake has also improved his grades and is on track to graduate, with plans to pursue a business degree.

Thank you for making these and many more success stories possible!
