By the time children enter kindergarten, a wide achievement gap already exists between students from low-income families and their peers. UWNCM seeks to level the playing field and give all children a strong start as well as strategic educational opportunities as they grow, setting them on paths to succeed in school, work and life.
Through our Early Childhood Literacy program, children from birth to third grade develop essential early literacy skills using the award-winning Footsteps2Brilliance® app. Local kindergarten students also hone their literacy and social skills by working with volunteer mentors through our Partnering for Literacy program.
United Way Youth Venture supports teams of students from elementary to high school levels as they partner together to identify and propose solutions to pressing problems around them. Participants receive guidance from local mentors and learn valuable lessons in leadership, social responsibility and professional communication.
