LEOMINSTER: Montachusett Hospitality Network, Inc., announced its plan to formally change the agency’s name to North Star Family Services, Inc., on October 24, 2019. The agency, which provides shelter services to homeless families with children has been in operation since 2003. In addition to safe housing, the Leominster-based agency offers case management, meals, clothing assistance, parent trainings and other educational topics that help individual families work toward self-sufficiency and permanent housing. The shelter has been located on Main Street in Leominster since 2015.

“The Board of Directors along with staff, volunteers and numerous stakeholders have been in discussions over the past year regarding the need and benefits of an agency refresh. Assistance from both a mission/vision consultant, as well as, branding consultant has resulted in a new name and logo that better reflects the scope of our services and plans for growth,” stated Executive Director, Dr. Jon Hogue. The year-long effort also resulted in a new core purpose, vision and mission statement.

Adam Weber, President of the Board of Directors said, “the Agency’s roots began with the use of churches and parishioners as its first means of housing and supporting homeless families in the North Central area. Today faith communities remain a critical part of our volunteer team and that support has expanded to include local service clubs. We hope to include other groups in our mission to provide stable housing, comprehensive services and advocacy for families in need of support. Because the North Star is often thought of as a ‘guiding star,’ the name North Star Family Services was chosen to reflect direction, inspiration and hope.”

Given funding for shelters is minimal, North Star Family Services operates on funding secured from grants, an annual fundraising walk and private donors. The launch of the agency’s holiday appeal for financial support will take place late November.
