Leominster, Mass. –More than 50 Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Leominster employees packaged 20,000 meals yesterday so families won’t go hungry this fall.

“We are so pleased to be able to sponsor and participate in such an important cause,” said Suzanne Farias, general manager of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Leominster. “This brings to life the hotel’s mission of community partnership and Hilton’s focus on community engagement through its programs of ‘Teaching Kids To Care’ and Global Service Week”.

Participants, which also included volunteers from Town and Country Apartments in Fitchburg, which also contributed to the sponsorship of the program, and the Boys and Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster, assembled for the food packaging event at the hotel, in partnership with United Way Volunteer Center and Outreach Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides the meal packaging program at host locations across the United States.

The volunteers packaged, sealed and boxed nutritious meals of rice and beans and macaroni and cheese, which were delivered to 12 food pantries across the region.

“This is an incredible example of a business making an enormous local impact through employee volunteerism,” said Phil Grzewinski, president of United Way of North Central Massachusetts. “With this event, the community has now helped packaged over 130,000 meals. We know the food pantries really appreciate having a healthy food staple to provide to their clients.”
