Athol Savings Bank, Bemis Associates, Johnson Controls, and Workers Credit Union recognized for commitment to community

FITCHBURG, MA: October 28, 2020 — United Way of North Central Massachusetts (UWNCM) has awarded the Spirit of North Central Massachusetts Award for Corporate Leadership to four local companies that have shown exceptional dedication to the community for the 2019-2020 campaign. In addition, one individual was recognized as the Employee Campaign Manager of the Year for leading an exemplary United Way workplace campaign.

The Spirit of North Central Massachusetts Awards are given annually to companies in each of four regions in North Central Massachusetts. Last year’s awards were given as follows: Athol Savings Bank in Athol for the Athol region; Bemis Associates, Inc. in Shirley for the Nashoba Region; Johnson Controls in Westminster for the Gardner region; and Workers Credit Union in Fitchburg for the Twin Cities region.

The award recognizes corporate partners that embody an overall spirit of giving through contributions of time, leadership and resources in support of UWNCM’s work. These recipients demonstrated excellence during a particularly challenging time through robust volunteerism and participation in the United Way workplace campaign. All four companies have strong philanthropic cultures that encourage employees to give back and get involved.

In addition, Deborah Vescovi, Senior Vice President of Athol Savings Bank was named the Employee Campaign Manager of the Year for leading a creative United Way workplace campaign. Vescovi, a longtime UWNCM volunteer and former board member, did an impressive job inspiring and educating co-workers about the benefits of giving through United Way.

“We are honored to count these companies and individuals like Deborah Vescovi as our dedicated community partners. Together, we build a stronger more resilient North Central Massachusetts,” says UWNCM President Kory Eng.

While UWNCM was unable to hold its annual Thank You event, award recipients were recognized at the UWNCM annual meeting on Tuesday October 27. UWNCM will deliver awards in person over the coming weeks.
