In 2017, high school soccer star Landon Tucker found himself sidelined after he suffered four successive concussions. Instead of letting his injuries get the best of him, Tucker decided to focus his strong drive and leadership skills elsewhere to make a difference in his community.
The first year of high school presents many challenges for incoming students, from tackling more rigorous academics to deciphering class schedules. Thanks to a United Way Youth Venture team, freshmen at Leominster High school have a resource to turn to for support: Project Launch.
Each year, many of the police offers and fire fighters who protect our communities, sacrifice their holiday time with their families by working on Christmas Day. Last year, high school student Caleb VanHillo made the holidays a little merrier for these first responders with his Meals for Shields Project.

Food packaging program sets its sights on 1 million meals delivered to local charities FITCHBURG, MA, April 25, 2019 – Monty Tech students helped set the stage for a milestone year at the 2019 United Way 3rd Annual Combat Hunger Kick Off Event on April 24. Students packaged 22,224 meals for local food pantries, bringing the Combat Hunger initiative’s total to 928,920 meals packaged since it was founded in 2013. The program is now expected to reach one million meals in November of this year.
