The L. S. Starrett Company is to Host Athol Combat Hunger Event as Part of the 23rd Annual United Way Day of Caring
United Way of North Central Massachusetts is seeking volunteers for this important event to help end hunger and food insecurity in the greater Athol area. ATHOL, MA, August 2, 2018 – There are more than 500 children and families in Greater Athol who are food insecure. Combat Hunger is an innovative program that addresses this issue by organizing volunteers to help package nutritious meals that are delivered to local food pantries and schools.
United Way of North Central Massachusetts invites individuals, companies, and schools to help make a difference by volunteering during their Day of Caring, which will take place on Friday, September 21, this year. While they have yet to attend a class, more than 700 incoming Fitchburg State University (FSU) freshmen are already making a positive impact on the community. While participating in FSU’s new student orientation days on June 19, 21, 26, and 29, the future scholars helped package 44,448 meals. The meals are then distributed to food pantries, schools, and community agencies throughout North Central Massachusetts.
