The second Combat Hunger event of the season was held on May 16, 2018 at Great Wolf Lodge where 150 volunteers helped package more than 40,000 meals from 10am to 2pm. The event was made possible by the two Premier Sponsors, Aubuchon Hardware and Great Wolf Lodge, as well as this year’s Gold Sponsor, AIS, Inc. (Affordable Interior Systems). “Food insecurity is a reality in our region and volunteers are eager to help end it. The event response has been amazing.” said Fran Longton UWNCM’s Volunteer Center Manager.
Early Literacy Innovation Zone of North Central MA Launch Levels the Playing Field in Childhood Literacy Across the Region
The First Regionwide “Early Literacy Innovation Zone” Will Fuel the Workforce and Economic Development of the Future A press conference to unveil The Early Literacy Innovation Zone of North Central Massachusetts (Innovation Zone) was held on Thursday, May 24, at Fitchbrug High School. The Innovation Zone is the first education collaborative to create a region-wide “collective impact” model to provide the resources needed so that all children enter kindergarten ready to learn and read proficiently by third grade.
Networking event also featured a presentation from the United Way Youth Venture program GARDNER MA, May 24, 2018 -- Johnson Controls, in partnership with the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce, the North Central MA Chamber of Commerce, and the North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce, hosted a casual and educational Business After Hours event on Thursday, May 24, 5:15 – 7:15 pm, at its 50 Technology Drive, Westminster, MA location. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages were served.
Arbella Insurance Foundation donated $500 to United Way of North Central Massachusetts Combat Hunger Initiative, which was matched by Executive Vice President, Richard Bagley in the total amount donated of $1000. The check was presented at Arbella Insurance Agency in Leominster, Massachusetts to President of United Way North Central Mass, Phil Grzewinski. United Ways Combat Hunger Initiative is dedicated to providing food to families in need.
On April 13, 2018, Leominster Public Schools hosted a Partnering for Literacy Recognition Event to thank the United Way of North Central Massachusetts and Affordable Interior Systems, Inc. (AIS), and to welcome the program’s newest Classroom Assistants. The United Way’s Partnering for Literacy program was launched in October 2017 in collaboration with Leominster Public Schools and AIS, Inc., the program’s first corporate partner. The pilot academic mentoring program is focused on early childhood literacy, one of UWNCM's main iniatitives.
