Local students once again showed off their entrepreneurial spirits and passions for making a difference at the fourth annual United Way Youth Venture Showcase Recap on March 14.
Hosted at the Great Wolf Lodge in Fitchburg, the event gave more than 250 parents, teachers, and business and community leaders the opportunity to view the inspiring work of 50 student “Venture Teams” from 14 local elementary, middle, and high schools as well as one girl scout troop.
The teams, all participants in United Way Youth Venture, presented a wide variety of impressive projects aimed at tackling challenges in their schools and communities, and beyond. Topics ranged from creating a space for high school students to de-stress, to finding ways to feed on-duty first responders during the holidays, and running a basketball competition to raise funds for improving sanitation facilities in Cambodia.
United Way of North Central Massachusetts President/CEO Philip Grzewinski was also honored at the event for bringing Youth Venture to the region in 2002. Students gave him a handmade poster with dozens of signatures and photos from his involvement with the program.
